Rasmus Andresen (3. plads i 2010 og vinder i 2009) fortæller her om lørdagen, der aldrig bliver glemt!

Danish CrossFit Open 2010

Besides a hell of a lot of intensity I did not know what to expect from the 2010 Challenge. This time several affiliates and nations would participate. The boys from Butcher’s Lab had been posting very strong stats and the world elite would be represented by Blair Morrison. So I expected the level to be entirely different compared to 2009, yet I did not know how high. If I could stay in the game for all five events I would be happy.

Kyle "The Mad Man" Raymond i et 241 kg dødløft! Den kom desværre ikke hele vejen.

This time all five events were announced in the morning. The mind automatically starts to analyze the workouts and I recognized event 4 as the one which could prove critical to me. I forced myself to focus on the first event, dealing with the others later.
The rope climbing proved to be the big time consumer in the first event, but being used to that in the army I was comfortable with it. I expected Blair Morrison to play in his own league so finishing only four reps short of him surprised me.

Event 3 was the deadlift. Here the roar from the spectators really started to pick up and it was exhilarating to compete in such energy filled space. Several times I thought of quoting Maximus Decimus Meridus with a “Are you not entertained?” scream, but saved the energy for the barbell. I managed to raise my PR by 11 kilos, largely because of fantastic support from friends and spectators. Walked away finishing third, still buzzed from the intensity in the room.
The snatch being an underdeveloped part of my current fitness, I was not at all comfortable with the barbell complex of the fourth event. The power snatch seemed way to close to my max. The event showed really strong performances from Blair, Anders Knudsen and Frederik Ægidius. I went through the 15 rounds slowly but without stopping and was happy not to lose too much ground.

Blair Morisson (her med 201kg på stangen) blev slået med 20 kg i dødløftet af Rasmus!

I was really excited with event five.  It was all about work capacity, just my kind of event. Before the event I was 2 points short of Blair and a first place in this last event would mean an overall win. Being in a position to actually compete against an athlete with such an admirable work ethic really got me focused and ready to give all I had.
Countdown from 10 and then go! The first row felt surprisingly hard and after the swings I was completely out of air. That did not feel right. The event was too short to give hope that the other guys would blow up so I had no choice but to press on. By my side I saw Ægidius moving really fast, and the event now felt a lot more like a defense than like an attack. On my second round I had 5 burpees disqualified, probably for good reasons, and from there on it was pure damage control. After the event my only thought was: ”What happened there??”
And I still do not really know

Thanks to all athletes, judges and spectators for a truly rewarding experience!

Great performance, Rasmus.

As you might have read in Blairs blog, you were not the only one that was taken by surprise in the last event.

I seem to remember that at least some or your burpees was disqualified due to the clap not happening in the air but noticebly after landing. Tough – I know ;-)
